Fruit of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

This is a good verse to remember. These are the things by which we should be identified as Christians. Sadly, I have seen more of the opposite lately. Right above thess two verses it says this:

The acts of the flesh are obvious:…hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy,…and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21

We don’t see people in person much these days due to COVID. So we seem to have forgotten how to interact with real people. Instead we post on social media forgetting that real people read our posts. We comment on their posts forgetting to display the fruit of the Spirit in our online world just as we try to in our actual world.

What does your Facebook page say about you? Or your tweets? Sometimes Christians says that you might be the only Jesus someone ever sees. If your Facebook page is the only ways someone sees you, is that a good reflection of Jesus working in your life? Or is that just someone else yelling about something they like or don’t like in the world today?

Are you displaying the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control?

Or are you displaying acts of the flesh: hatred, discord, anger, selfishness, divisiveness?

Because I am seeing too much of the latter lately, and not enough of the former. And I love Jesus, but if his followers were trying to convert me today, I would not be drawn to Him by their behavior and their words.

Mask or no mask, think about how you reflect Jesus today. Love others. Be joyful. Desire peace with others. Work for that. Be patient with one another. BE KIND! (I learned that in kindergarten as BE NICE!) Look for the good in the world. Be gentle with one another. And control yourself, even online.

  1. We may be the only Jesus some people ever see. Our words may be the only Bible some people ever read. Yes, let’s be on mission to advance the Gospel and not our own agendas. Love goes a long way.
